    Antonius Chapel, Brig
This Catholic Chapel of St. Antonius Eremita in the upper castle shank was possibly created together with the establishment of the Antoniusspital in 1304.
This Catholic Chapel of St. Antonius Eremita in the upper castle was possibly created together with the establishment of the Antoniusspital in 1304. The chapel was rebuilt and expanded in the late Gothic period (1494) and in the Baroque period. The late Gothic statue of Anthony from the second half of the 15th century stands in a barren, baroque altar shrine. In the earthquake of 1851, the front tower collapsed above the entrance facade. It was rebuilt five years later in a neo-Gothic style. The church bell in the tower bears the year 1396 and the keystone of one of the vaults bears the year 1494. The chapel serves as a historical meeting place for Zenden and the district administrator. At the end of the 20th century the chapel was completely renovated. The chapel played an important role in the religious customs of the year: Every year on January 14th, the feast of St. Antonius Eremita, a solemn horse blessing took place in front of the church
