  • The town hall, dating from a medieval predecessor destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt on its original site in 1730, is the most important secular building in the city center, on Hauptstraße, the central traffic artery that runs west-east through the old town from the Neckar Gate to the Schriesheim Gate.A two-story, plastered, solid building, standing alone, with corner ashlars and a figural niche (containing a copy of a Madonna from around 1500) at the southeast corner, the ground floor opening onto the market square through three round-arched arcades, windows with embellishments, and a mansard roof. 1496: First mention of a town hall in Ladenburg, destroyed in the Thirty Years' War (probably by the Swedes in 1644). 1730: Baroque reconstruction, probably based on plans by Johann Jakob Rischer. 1895: Renovation and expansion, an extension to the rear for fire engines and other equipment. A tobacco scale was built under the arcades. 1898: Arcades closed. 1898-1933: "Sparkasse der Stadt Ladenburg" (Savings Bank of the City of Ladenburg) housed in the town hall. 1901: Renovation, 1912: Police station established. 1969: Repair of the exterior façade with exposure of the painted sandstone surrounds and pilasters. 1982: Town hall relocated to a new building. 1982/83: Renovation of the Old Town Hall, opening of the arcades, use as an adult education center. 1990/91: Roofing re-covered, 2005: New paint.
