If you are in the area it is absolutely worth a visit as it is a very particular historic village, since you are there I also recommend "recharging" at the Madonnetta with "raboseo and meatballs"!

Excellent point of departure / arrival or for a stop both for the unique atmosphere of the square and for the good presence of bars.
In Marostica, in the province of Vicenza, over 600 figures stage what the legend tells is the story of the castellan Taddeo Parisio who in 1454 prevented a duel between two young people in love with his daughter: he decided that Lionora, the beautiful contest, would marry who had won a game of the noble game of chess, which had to be played in the Castle square with "big, live and armed pieces". Thus, for more than 90 years, every two, on the second weekend of September in the square of the Castle of Marostica, a game has been played with living characters, between foot soldiers and knights, fires and plays of light, songs and dances.
The square itself is a "chessboard": 256 square meters of red and white marble from the nearby Asiago plateau form the chessboard on the ground, while the dark trachyte defines its external perimeter. The surface of the square not occupied by the chessboard, on the other hand, is in pink and white Asiago marble, shades less marked than red to bring out in all its beauty this unique chessboard in the world.
