The Fiera dei Bogoni, also called Marcà dei bogóni, is an event that takes place every year on November 30, on the occasion of the feast of the patron saint, or the following Sunday in Sant'Andrea, a hamlet of Badia Calavena, in the province of Verona. It is a market dedicated to "bogóni", a term that comes from the Veronese dialect and indicates snails.
A few years ago a website was activated (fieradeibogoni.it/) with a collection of photos and curiosities as well as the program of the fair

The Bogoni Fair originated before the 13th century in the Triga district. In addition to the snail market, a sheep and oxen market was held at the same time in the Trettene district and a pig market where the cemetery now stands.

The opening of the market of capped bogons, collected and kept in the bogonare, took place around 5.30 in the morning, to evade the debt collectors of the Benedictine monastery of Badia Calavena [2], which imposed rents and tithes on lands, animals, fruits in genus and species.

Sellers from nearby towns (Badia Calavena, Selva di Progno, San Mauro di Saline) and buyers who also came from distant provinces (Brescia, Bergamo, Sondrio, Pavia, Milan) took part in the Sant'Andrea market. After bargaining and checking the price, the snails were weighed with a steelyard. The price of the snails depended on the presence of the operculum, the protection of the animal against the winter cold, composed of calcareous mucus that solidifies with the air, creating a film between the outside and the inside of the snail.
