It has been a few years since the curlingers and ice skaters in the town pond were able to indulge their hobbies on the ice surface at the foot of the Kreuzberg. In view of the mild winters that have been prevalent for a long time, older Pleystein in particular like to think back to those frosty times when the large swan pond was frozen over almost every year from Christmas to March. The historic pond was a popular meeting place, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. Franz Auer from Hamburg, born in 1949 and a son of the country doctor Max Auer (1917 to 1996), has a photo from his family album from 1956 available to Oberpfalz-Medien through his former classmate Martha Görg from Wirges and her sister Grete Reger from Pleystein posed that shows the sporting activity on the ice of the city pond (picture no. 4).

The city pond represents the "reflecting heart" of the place. With inviting green areas and seating, the park offers numerous opportunities for relaxation. The park is located below the Kreuzbergkirche, which was built on a huge 38 m high rock made of rose quartz. It is assumed that the city pond served as a collecting and compensation basin in earlier times, from whose overflow the moats of the city fortifications were fed.
