The Work at Maarsseveen, one of the last forts of the New Dutch Waterline, was built in 1881 to close the Maarsseveensevaart. It originally had a complement of 80 troops. Only the bomb-proof building remains of the original work; the earthen walls and the wooden outbuilding have disappeared over the years. The old fort keeper's house next to the Work has still been preserved.
The fort is currently being transformed into a breeding ground for art, culture and recreation.
