If you are travelling along the west bank of Lake Vättern on the route from Jönköping to Askersund, you should visit Hjo. Hjo is considered one of the three most beautiful "wooden towns" in Sweden (the others are Nora in the Örebro region and Eksjö in the north of Småland). In the centre of Hjo there are a particularly large number of beautiful wooden villas. Most of them date from the late 19th century.
