The tradition of the Castelluccia festival The festival recalls an ancient rite that dates back to that of S. Maria of the fifteenth of August celebrated by the Solofran parish and of Byzantine origin having been introduced after the Council of Ephesus (431) by the emperor Maurice who prescribed its dissemination throughout the empire .solofrastorica.it/Castelluccia.htm

The church stands on the Castelluccia plateau where there was an ancient cult of the Virgin. It was Grancia of the monastery of S. Agostino.
It was commissioned at the beginning of the sixteenth century by the feudal lord of Serino to whom the area belonged, Ludovico della Tolfa.
It was then endowed by the other feudal lords of Serino including the Princes Caracciolo of Avellino.
The park is located in the sanctuary complex
