As of January 1, 2020, the Autonomous Port of Charleroi will consist of 28 port areas with a total area of 460 hectares (300 hectares of which are former industrial wastelands). 50 hectares of which are green areas, access roads, embankments, etc. 410 hectares are actually usable.
The Autonomous Port of Charleroi has received a mandate from the Walloon Region to contribute to the development of economic activities linked to inland navigation and, consequently, to the creation of jobs.
Its task is to promote intermodal transport through the optimal use of all port areas along the waterway and leasing them to companies. The port has to develop, set up, manage and operate the leased land.
