    The Gillenfeld volunteer fire brigade was then founded in 1880. The founding meeting, at which this fire brigade gave its statutes, took place on September 12, 1880, with 70 men over 20 years' signature confirming their accession to the armed forces. It had 2 mobile syringes, 12 fire buckets (the stock should be increased), 9 fire hooks and 4 fire ladders. The permanent head of this fire brigade was the respective mayor. The board was composed of the captain, the two syringe masters, the two hook masters and the cashier, who was also secretary at the same time. The exercises were scheduled for the first Sunday of each month at 4.30 a.m. (!) The fire brigade had to pass a major test on Easter Sunday morning in 1887 when a fire broke out in a barn in the Upper Village. The whole of the upper village - except for 3 houses - fell to rubble and ashes.
