This is the Staufen Bridge, it connects the community of Piding with Bad Reichenhall.
The Staufen Bridge is a river crossing for pedestrians and cyclists over the Saalach in Bavaria between Piding (Rupertiwinkel) and Bad Reichenhall. The bridge was the most important access to the Reichenhall Basin for centuries. As a border point for the state of Salzburg, it was important from the 13th century to 1810.
Transition for pedestrians and cyclists
In 1957, the now dilapidated wooden Staufen Bridge was replaced with a prestressed concrete structure that was closed to car traffic. The bridge developed into a popular river crossing for pedestrians and cyclists between Piding and Bad Reichenhall, over which several designated supra-regional cycle paths also led. When the bridge, which was damaged by corrosion, had to be closed in 2008 for safety reasons and a new building became unavoidable, a temporary wooden footbridge was built in May 2009. This was dismantled in the winter of 2010/11 when the new Staufen Bridge was made available for use by cyclists and pedestrians. The architecturally appealing bridge follows its countless predecessors, which have connected people on both banks of the Saalach for 800 years.
