Places all over the New Forest are traditionally strongly connected with smuggling free-trade in the 18th Century, but none more so than the Burley area. Ridley Wood (OS ref SU2006) was a smugglers' marketplace. As you walk through this lovely wood you can almost sense history. What tales those ancient beech trees could tell!
