Chapel at the VoppichlhofThe chapel was built in 1798 by Mathias Innerbichler, the then Voppichl farmer, after he encountered great distress in the mountains during a hunting trip in the Zillertal and returned home safe and sound. It was dedicated to the founder's patron saint, the Apostle Matthias. Eleven years later, in 1809, Mathias Innerbichler was killed in action against Napoleonic troops near Bruneck. In the chapel, one can admire depictions of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus, St. Matthias, St. Barbara, and the Archangel Michael. On the ceiling are depictions of the Holy Spirit and a warning image depicting the transience of life. Above the entrance is a fresco of the Poor Souls in Purgatory.
