From here there is a short detour from the path to the former Braunhaus tunnel. It was built from 1873 to 1875. With the electrification of the Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1961, the tunnel was demolished because its height was insufficient for the overhead lines to be laid.

Today a fragment of the portal and a monument made of stones from the former south portal testify to the tunnel. A notice board points out the detour for those interested.

The Braunhäuser Tunnel was a 293 m long railway tunnel and was built between 1873 and 1875. When the line was electrified in 1961, the tunnel was slit open and demolished on one side so that rail traffic could continue to run on a single track. In May 1962, heavy rainfall caused a landslide on the new embankment, burying the entire line. The embankment was then flattened and the 1 m thick brickwork was finally blown up.

Electrical operation began in spring 1963.

Today, only a portal fragment and a monument made from stones from the former south portal remain to the tunnel - the latter bears the inscription "1873-1875 - Braunhäuser Tunnel - demolished in 1962".
