On April 1, 1956, the “excavation” of the 1,450-meter-long tunnel began from the newly excavated 64-meter level of the Königsberg mine and from the tunnel mouth hole in Biebertal. The water was pumped from the tunnel floor of the Königsberg mine at a depth of 210 meters (150 meters high) to a depth of 60 meters and led into the tunnel. The pumps delivered an average of 4 cubic meters of water per minute. This means that the swimming pool at the Biebertal family pool could be filled approx. 13 times per day. Two sewage ponds (now fish ponds) were created to clean the mine water.
