Anyone who looks at these images will probably agree with me that this "War Memorial" in Killingworth is very unusual in its design. At least I have never seen anything comparable before. Yet the interpretation of this memorial to the victims of war and tyranny, in the form of a small puzzle, is immediately apparent: The broken pieces of the puzzle leave a (painful) gap in the overall picture—just as, metaphorically, the fallen soldiers leave in their families. With this design, the artist has, in my personal opinion, succeeded in creating a modern reinterpretation of a "War Memorial."
