Airds Moss is a haven for wildlife on a site that was once a charcoal-fired blast furnace for commercial iron production. The Earl of Cathcart’s ironworks was constructed here in the 1730s due to its proximity to the River Ayr and the materials in the land. These days, however, it is home to a great deal of wildlife, especially birdlife, and is a tranquil place.
