Castle Kaltenstein - formerly probably a castle with a preserved to this day ring wall and mighty humpback masonry - was first mentioned in 1096 as castrum vehingen first documented.
At first it was owned by the Counts of Vaihingen. In 1339 the counts of Württemberg acquired it and appointed a chief vogt who lived in the castle. In the 16th century and again in 1734, the castle was rebuilt and strengthened its fortification. The castle served until the end of the 18th century as a garrison and military hospital, from 1843 as a working house. In 1949 it was taken over by the Christian Youth Village of Germany.
