Beautiful lake on the Rur in Hückelhoven. Bite marks from beavers can be seen on the trees between the lake and the Rur, and they are at home here again.

A beautiful piece of nature right on your doorstep. Next to it flows the Rur, which you can then follow to the Eifel on a beautiful bike path.

The Adolfosee is a lake near Ratheim in the center of the Heinsberg district and lies directly on the Rur. It is approximately L-shaped; the greatest width is approx. 800 m, the greatest longitudinal extent is approx. 590 m.

The lake and its shore areas are designated as a landscape protection area.

        Origin

The lake is an quarry lake, created as a result of sand and gravel mining from the late 1960s to the 1980s. In the initial phase it was popularly called “Lago Laprello” (the quarry pond in the Lieck district of Heinsberg is also called Lago Laprello, after the gravel mining company), and it then got its official name after Adolf Freiherr Spies von Büllesheim from Ratheim, who belonged to it At that time he was a member of the Bundestag for the Heinsberg district.

In 1973 the Spies von Büllesheim family leased the lake to the Ratheim fishing club. At that time the lake had an area of 20 hectares.[1] The banks were subsequently planted with woody species on their own initiative by the members of the Ratheim fishing club.
