The Roman bridge of Cangas de Onís is located over the Sella River, separating the municipalities of Cangas de Onís and Parres. The truth is that the current bridge is not Roman, but medieval from the 13th century (although restored on several occasions), but it was built on the foundations of a Roman bridge. The bridge has become a symbol of Asturias, since the cross on the inverted crescent commemorates the defeat of the Arabs in the battle of Covadonga.

The Roman Bridge of Cangas de Onís, also known as the bridge, is an old construction located over the Sella River in the old capital of Asturias, Cangas de Onís, and which separates the councils of Cangas de Onís and Parres.

Although it is known as the Roman bridge, its construction was during the High Middle Ages, probably from the s. XIII, other sources date it during the reign of Alfonso XI of Castile and León.

A large replica of the Victoria Cross, symbol of Asturias, hangs from the central arch. This decorative detail has its origin in 1939 when, after her forced exile in Paris, the image of La Santina returned to Spain and its headquarters in Covadonga. To receive her in Cangas de Onís, a triumphal arch was built over the new bridge and the entire area was adorned, using, among other reasons, a Victoria Cross that, since then, has been displayed in the center of the bridge.

The bridge was declared a National Monument in 1931.
