The landmark of Ponta Delgada was built in the 18th century near the former wharf and later, during the construction of the Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, was converted to the Gonçalo Velho Cabral Square. It consists of three arches, of which the coat of arms of the royal arms and the city are depicted on the middle. These city gates are the calling card of Ponta Delgada.
