In the late 13th century the castle was built by the nobleman of Basel, the Schaler, on his own property. The castle was mentioned for the last time in 1452. The multi-building complex is divided into two parts, an imposing round tower was partially preserved in 1975. A systematic investigation has not taken place.

After an exciting ascent on a narrow trail (including easy climbing), the remains of the ruin Schalberg rise on the first hill.

Bigger ruin with bench and barbecue place to take a break. Exciting ascent over the Schalenberg cave, for which I recommend good shoes and sure-footedness.
