The summit area of the Schellenberg has always been an important surveying point. In 1801, Napoleon's troops built a 33 m high wooden tower to create a military map. This was destroyed again by Austrian soldiers a few years later. In 1820, the Bavarian State Surveying Office built a new tower. 10 years later, this was brought down again by a storm. In 1929, a new surveying tower was built on the same spot, the foundations of which are still visible today.

A wooden summit cross was built in 2021 in a joint effort by several local clubs at this historically significant place and was then blessed.
