On October 21, 1989, the city inaugurated the fountain sculpture "Paar-oh-die" on the Neuer Markt, causing heated debates. The sculpture seemed too incomprehensible to many, others saw it as a piece of modernity in Rotenburg. The artist Jürgen Goertz did not comment on his work. He left the public to think.

The work consists of three parts: 1.) "Couple-oh-the fountain system" (total height approx. 430 cm, pool diameter approx. 800 cm), 2.) "Couple-oh-die" as a model table in the preliminary bronze and 3.) Parody of the "Couple-oh-the" bronze. The model table and the parody are about 80 m behind the kiosk.

Goertz's works play with language and materials. The artist parodied the word "parody" onomatopoeic to "pair-oh-die". He uses the word “couple” and the exclamation “oh die” artistically. A woman rests on a ball, her heart is not in the right place but on the man's head. Both do not look at each other directly, the man blinks one eye at the woman. A connection between the two forms a golden shoe. Goertz parodies this relationship by depicting two wrestling animals. The parody of "Couple-oh-die". The work of art always encourages discussions among visitors.

In a 2014 interview, Goertz said: “My art project “Paar-oh-die” for Rotenburg is based on a time-relevant sentiment analysis. Remember: 1989 – the year of the German reunification of East and West. A time of the most diverse emancipation efforts, of public dialogue regarding the abolition of taboo positions and polarization, the changing relationship between the sexes and the generations, the practiced culture of debate as a condition for harmony.”
