The port of Betina is located at the end of a small bay on the coast of the island of Murter. Although it has almost grown together with the town of Murter, Betina has been able to keep its village flair and is even considered the most picturesque place on the entire island. It was not until the 16th century that Betina was founded by residents of the small town of Vrana on Lake Vrana, who fled from the approaching Turks. Since the port of Betina looks like a mouth when viewed from above, the name of the settlement was derived from the Celtic word "bet", the name for mouth. The cultivation of vegetables, wine and olives nourished the population of Betina and later came fishing and, from the 18th century, shipbuilding. Even today, the shipyard founded by the residents of the village in 1848, in which fishing and sport boats are made, is a popular attraction for visitors to Betina own repair workshop.
