The Penglaouic menhir dates from the Neolithic[4]. Its current position testifies to the rise in water levels since that time on the Breton coast[3].
Originally it indicated the source of a stream and was located about two kilometers from the coast.[5] Today it marks the boundary between the communes of Loctudy and Pont-l'Abbé, and is indicated under this name on the land register.
