The monastery Rot an der Rot (also Roth, Münchroth or Mönchroth) in Red on the Red was the first Premonstratensian monastery in Swabia. This former Premonstratensian Reichsstift, which was originally named Mönchsroth, extends as an impressive assembly on a ridge between the Red and Haslachtal. The ensemble of the convent church of St. Verena, dedicated to Saint Verena and the castle-like convent buildings, is decorated in a picturesque manner by numerous towers and counts as an important station to the Upper Swabian Baroque street. In addition to the secluded location in which the monastery rises abruptly, red impresses with numerous monastic buildings - from the gate to the farm - and their excellent state of preservation.

Red was first mentioned around the year 1100. In 1126, Hemma von Wildenberg founded the Rot monastery, also known as Mönchsrot, which was settled by French Premonstratensian canons. Since then, the history of the place has been closely linked to that of the monastery, which, as the first settlement of the Premonstratensians in Swabia and through the founding of several new monasteries, soon became influential nationwide and became directly imperial in the 15th century.
