Today a village, but between 1271-1878 it was officially a town. Like many other towns in Upper Spiš region, it was re-founded by the Saxon-German in the 13th century and was renamed for Menhardsdorf. It was a predominantly German town, one of the towns ceded to Poland in 1412 and under the Polish rule until 1772. There is a 13 century church devoted to St Servatius with newer rococo decorations and a column informing the former Polish rule over this land, next to the church. There is also a Protestant church from 18th century.

Vrbov / Menhardsdorf Saxons were one of those Germanic who were expelled by the end of WW2 (although they had been living there for some 700 years!) and replaced by Slovaks and Gypsies. In 1981 a thermal sulfuric springs were discovered and a thermal waters complex was built (south of the village).

After leaving Vrbov, watch carefully not to miss the new cycleway, which will lead you to Kežmarok, through beautiful bellic landscapes.
