Colpaolombo probably owes its name to the wood pigeon hunting that is widespread in this area. The first news of the castle dates back to the 12th century and parts of this structure are still visible within the village today. The town stands on a hill overlooking the Chiascio river valley. It was precisely the elevated position that made this settlement so important for the defense of the surrounding territory.
