Nice to look at even at night and don't forget the water features at the entrance.

The Dresden Cultural Palace is a modernist GDR building by the architect Wolfgang Hänsch. It was opened in 1969 and had the largest multi-purpose hall in the city of Dresden, which was used for concerts, dance and entertainment events as well as meetings and congresses.

        Dresden Cultural Palace
The construction history of the Dresden Palace of Culture includes many interesting chapters. First announced as the “House of Socialist Culture” in an architectural competition in 1959, the planning process was subject to numerous ideological, political and economic influences. A library and the cabaret “The Hercules Club” were already planned for the Kulturpalast back then, but were not realized during the planning phase for cost reasons.
The design by a collective led by the architect Leopold Wiel ultimately formed the basis for the execution. After long discussions that included the state and party leadership at the time, the project planning was passed on to a Dresden planning combine in 1962. Wolfgang Hänsch became the chief architect. The foundation stone was laid in February 1967 and the ceremonial inauguration took place in October 1969.
The Dresden Palace of Culture was remarkable in many ways at the time of its opening. A cultural center of this size that could be used for many purposes had not yet been built in the former GDR. The architecture also resisted the political doctrine of a high-rise building visible from afar in the style of socialist classicism and rather integrated principles and elements of international modernism. Dresden's city center, which was destroyed in 1945, received a striking cultural building that quickly found favor among artists and the public as a visible testimony to the reconstruction.
