It rises at an elevation of 261 m below Mount Velja Glava (594 m) in Papraća, in the municipality of Šekovići near Zvornik, and flows for 127 km before emptying into the Bosna at Doboj at an elevation of 138 m. Along the way, it flows through the relatively densely populated areas of Kalesija, Živinice, Lukavac, Petrovo, Gračanica, and Doboj.
Left tributaries include the Mala Spreča, the Oskova, and the Gostelja; right tributaries include the Gribaja and the Jala.
