Heinz Schmidt (born November 7, 1940 in Braunschweig) is a German politician (CDU), a councilor since 1976 and mayor of the municipality of Wolsdorf from 1991 to 2011. When he handed over his office to his successor Sabine Siegmund in 2011, he was appointed the first honorary mayor of the community. On April 10, 2012, he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and on April 13, the Mayor Schmidt Square named after him was officially inaugurated.
