The Wiederau transmitter went into operation on October 28, 1932 as a medium wave transmitter for Saxony on the 782 kHz frequency. It had a transmission power of 120 kilowatts and used a T-antenna as an antenna, which was attached to two 125-meter-high freestanding wooden towers.
The current 212 meter high mast is now used for broadcasting VHF programs.
