Stop here for a moment. The Rhine bend here is very scenic. It used to be a morgue where the drowned who were washed ashore here often got their first resting place before being properly buried.
The house had to give way to the Reihndeich.

It was already scary times in Voerde on the Rhine dike, as the driven water corpses were housed in the Rhine bend in Götterswickerhamm in the mortuary on the dike. They were said to have been laid out there until the 1950s, because the Rheindorf Götterswickerhamm did not have its own morgue. So it was common for Rheindörfer to leave dead bodies, which the river restored, on the dyke until they were identified.
