The Lone rises to about 562 m above sea level. NN a spring pot in Urspring, a suburb of the municipality Lonsee. The spring pot is 6 m deep and has a diameter of 10 m. This karst source emits an average of 220 liters per second (at least 4 l / s max 1840 l / s). Their catchment area extends into the eight kilometers west of the area of Nellingen.

The Lonetopf is a karst spring similar to the much better known Blautopf.From here, the Lone flows about 38km through the Lonetal, where it then flows into the Hürbe, which is only about 2km long. the Hürbe in turn flows into the Brenz and from there it goes over the Danube to the Black Sea.
