    Scheeßel District Bailiwick
After a long, changeable history and times of decay, the Scheeßel District Bailiwick now serves as the Scheeßel administrative center for the energy supplier EWE and is therefore one of the most important sights in the core town of Scheeßel.

Around 1300 the Verden monastery was divided into the offices of Rotenburg and Visselhövede. The four geographic regions (subdistricts) Scheeßel, Schneverdingen, Neuenkirchen and Visselhövede belonged to Verden. With such abundance of power, there was also the risk of abuse of power by the governor.

There were two impeachments over a period of 300 years after violent protests from the population. At their head there was always a gogref, responsible for administration and lower jurisdiction. Later the terms Gografschaft and Gogref were replaced by Amtsvogtei and Amtsvogt.
The district bailiwick had a multitude of tasks, such as the lower judiciary, the registration system, health and trade supervision, supervision of the military obligation, control of the fire stations and fire brigade, maintenance of all public facilities, police service and announcement of the laws.

Until 1839, the location of the district bailiwick was directly behind today's town hall and the Untervogthof stood on what is now the town hall car park. In that year the Vogteihof burned down. In 1841 the Kingdom of Hanover acquired a new property, the current district bailiwick.

Veronika has already researched everything diligently.
I can only add that there is a beautiful wooden sculpture on the lawn next to the district bailiff.
