At the Markbachjoch, at the entrance to the Wildschönau valley, the first lift in Tyrol was built in 1946. The high valley owes the impetus for winter tourism to the “Eigenbau” chairlift - thin wooden panels, wires and water pipes were used for the seats and an old tank engine for the power supply. Today there is a gondola lift and nine lifts on the Markbachjoch.
