Uranus (Latinization from ancient Greek οὐρανός uranós, German 'sky') [3] is the seventh planet in the solar system with an average solar distance of 2.9 billion kilometers and is counted among the ice giants. It was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 13, 1781 and is named after the Greek god Uranos. It is the only planet named after a god from the Greek world of gods.
