The mountain Alte Warth has a great importance for tourism in Wartburgkreis. Since the 1960s, the Old Warth has also been known by the motorsport site located there, in the GDR era, the motor-cross events were a crowd puller. After the reunification, the interests of recreational sports were abandoned in favor of nature. The numerous rare plants and animal species had the inclusion in the FFH area 169 (Schweinaer reason, Zechsteing belt to Bad Liebenstein) result. A research station with attached information center of the Nature Park Thuringian Forest was built on site. The mountain can also be used as a base for exploring the beautiful landscape on the southern edge of the Thuringian Forest near Schweina.

A group of Bronze Age burial mounds is located at the edge of the forest and marks the beginning of colonization of the area. According to tradition, the mountain was used as a guard in the Middle Ages, it allowed a wide view
