You have to go there when you visit Lelystad. Imposing size

Antony Gormley (1950) creates artworks in which the human figure plays a central role. One of his best-known works is Angel of the North, a 20-metre-high steel figure with wings, which was unveiled in Gateshead in 1998. Gormley was inspired for his design for Flevoland by the intended location near Lelystad: a breakwater (extension of the Markerwaarddijk) in the middle of water, with a view of the Markermeer on one side and a view of the polder on the other. He designed a crouching man, modelled on his own body, who looks out over the water. The vastness of the surroundings makes it difficult to estimate the scale of the 26-metre-high artwork from a distance. The male figure invites the visitor to investigate, but changes in nature and becomes more abstract as the visitor approaches.
