at the foot of the mountain hut was already in 1531 in the Regenstein goods list called "Hut zur Braunenlawe". She had a blast furnace, two Zerrennherde and a pestle for crushing the ores. It reached its heyday after 1675. The hut has always suffered from lack of water due to frost or drought. The blast furnace was blown again in 1730 after several shutdowns, before it was finally shut down. The demolition of the dilapidated blast furnace in 1737 brought the end of Braunlager iron smelting.

Braunlage originated as a settlement probably in the 13th century. From 1580 the actual mountain u. Hüttenort. The ducal-Brunswick-Lüneburgische factories of Braunlager ironworks has been largely preserved and is one of the oldest buildings Braunlage. It is listed since 1958 and is since 1963 the Harz Hotel Altes Forsthaus.
