At the end of the 18th century, Cardinal Gabriello Riccardi, owner of Villa Saletta where he is buried in the church of the Madonna della Rocca, had a bridge built to facilitate crossing the Roglio stream. This is the first private brick bridge in the Valdera.
The peasants of the large Riccardi estates, which stretched from Pontedera to Chianni, did not have to pay, but all the others did. Next to the parapet on the right bank there is still, albeit in ruins, the house of the "guard" to which, until the early 1960s, the toll had to be paid to avoid a longer journey across the Capannoli bridge. .
