Anyone interested in medieval ruins is in good hands here.About history:
The medieval fortress Maasi was built with forced labor islanders.
With this work, the ruling Livonian Order punished the local population for the uprising that had destroyed the Order's previous stronghold.
The fortress by the sea was undefeated until it was blown up by the Danes in August 1576.
It was never rebuilt after that.
The 8 m high walls that survived the destruction are now a landmark. The ruin can be visited.
