One of the most important Pilgrimage Centers in Spain is the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Cortes, in Alcaraz. It is one of the tourist resources of the locality most demanded by tourists. Religious center par excellence of the region.

It was inaugurated on September 8, 1222. Its layout is circular and it has a Baroque altarpiece in the High Altar made in 1727. In 1265, Alfonso X the Wise met with his father-in-law Jaime I of Aragon to delimit the lands of conquest. Both are informed of the apparition of the Virgin and decide to give a contribution for the expansion of the Church and the construction of a hostel.

Its church, museum, reliquary, souvenir shops and bar are a must see in Alcaraz for all believers and tourists.

The Virgin of Cortes is highly revered for how miraculous she has been throughout the ages.
