Was built by the Trolle family between 1598 and 1651 but has been in the Holstein family for 12 generations (1707). The imposing main building consists of four contiguous two-story wings surrounded by a moat.
Hans Christian Andersen first visited Holsteinborg in May 1856, after numerous invitations from Count Ludvig Holstein and Countess Joachmine (Mimi) Holstein. Until his death (1875) he visited Holsteinborg a total of 35 times almost every year. Here he felt at home. On a photograph taken on the veranda in 1870 he wrote: My picture of the sun was created at Holsteinborg because sunshine was placed in my heart here.
