The Susten Pass on the main road 11 connects the canton of Uri with the canton of Bern. The pass road is 45 km long and is one of the newer ones in the Swiss Alps. It was built between 1938 and 1945; the inauguration took place on September 7, 1946.[1][2] Because it is primarily used for tourism, it is usually only open from June to October.
