"...Once driven up by elemental force under streams of fire..." rises the basalt dome of the Straufhain, which is covered with Keuper. On the 450-meter-high cone stand the remains of a once mighty castle complex that stretched across the entire plateau. In the middle of the 13th century, Strauf Castle was of immense importance as a residence, greater than the Coburg and Heldburg fortresses.
