    Hiking

If one were to categorize the more or less numerous small sacred monuments that hikers repeatedly encounter along the way according to their purpose, i.e., the reason for their erection, this stone monument is a classic memorial cross. It was erected here to commemorate a person murdered at this spot—in this case, a person of higher clerical rank, namely Bishop Samuel Wilberforce.

    Hiking

This is a great place to go hiking with children as you can do a loop of the roughs in around 3km and there is lots to keep them entertained during the walk. The paths are varied and the huge beech tree, the Witches Broom, is particularly fun to discover for both children and adults alike. There is also a big grassy area near the car park which makes for a wonderful picnic spot with amble space for a game of cricket, rounders or football.
