It is called either the Saxon, Fichtelgebirger or Vogtland Saale to distinguish it from some rivers of the same name.
In the western part of the Waldstein in the Münchberger Stadtwald, the Saale rises at an altitude of 707 m above sea level. NN. On its 430-kilometer run to the north, it flows through only a short area on the Bavarian side via Zell and Schwarzenbach to Hof before it crosses the border to Thuringia.

Very nicely laid out and the bike path along the Saxon Saale is very nicely laid out. Sometimes the signs are a bit confusing, but no problem with a navigation system 😜
