The history and artistic evolution of the sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli, the most important building of worship in Corbetta, are inextricably linked to the miraculous apparition of April 17, 1555. On that day, in fact, the first Thursday after Easter of the Resurrection, in the square in front of it. the small church of San Nicolao (now the lower part of the sanctuary) three children, Cesare dello Stampino, Antonio della Torre and the latter's brother Giovanni Angelo (called Novello), deaf and dumb since birth, played bowls under the portrait of the Madonna with the Child frescoed on the facade of the church. Suddenly little Giovanni, regaining hearing and speech, pointed out to his companions the celestial vision of the Child who, having detached himself from the painting, had descended among them to join in the game.
